Jade Empire for PC Announced

With the release of Jade Empire 2 for the Xbox 360 tomorrow, Bioware are looking to take advantage of the publicity by announcing Jade Empire for the PC. Jade Empire is a RPG that has you playing the role of an aspiring martial arts master. The exclusive features over the console version are controls suited for the PC, increased graphic resolution and visual effects, new monsters and enemies, new fighting styles, improved combat AI and difficult levels, and a new world map interface.

In this multi-award-winning action-RPG, your choices and actions will determine the fate of an empire. Will you prevent the destruction of this beautiful land or crush it beneath your heel? Are you a warrior who uses strength and fighting mastery to bring peace or will your power bring pain and ruin?

Jack Thompson Attacks Oblivion

Like a shark smelling blood in the water, Jack Thompson hones in on the RPG, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, shortly after the announcement that ESRB will be changing the game’s rating to Mature after a nude skin was found by modders, and more violence was found in the game. Jack Thompson is sending out press releases looking for media attention, again.

Oblivion Rating Changed To M

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has just sent word that the rating assigned to Bethesda’s and 2K Games’ The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been changed from T (Teen 13+) to M (Mature 17+). “The content causing the ESRB to change the rating involves more detailed depictions of blood and gore than were considered in the original rating, as well as the presence of a locked-out art file or ’skin’ that, if accessed through a third party modification to the PC version of the game, allows the user to play with topless versions of female characters,” said the ESRB in a release.

Third Official Oblivion Mod Released

The third mod from Bethesda Softworks for Oblivion, Wizard’s Tower, has been released. It weighs in at 17.6MB, costs $1.89, and features a new building to explore and own, and allows you to teleport to any mage guild instantly. Inside you’ll also find a laboratory for alchemical brewing, enchanting, and spellmaking fun. The mod also adds a spell recharge vendor in the Imperial City.

The first mod allowed you to outfit your horse with armor, giving you a choice between elven or steel armor. The second mod involved a quest to collect dwemer artifacts to fix a machine that spits out spells with results that depends on the cycles of the month. There’s no word on what is planned after this third mod as of yet.

Married in Oblivion (Without Children)

Due to an odd glitch in a quest involving the Knights of the White Stallion quest (which I enjoyed when I got it) now won an Oblivion addict a brand new Orc wife. If you’re looking for the old ball ‘n chain, here’s your chance for the opportunity:

Shawn has figured out how to keep himself a mighty fine Orc wife, Mazoga. Once she went on adventures with him. Now she lives in his house in Tamriel, and he can’t get her to leave. He visits her when he’s in the city, tired after his days of adventuring. He’s thinking about buying her a kitchen set. Maybe a living room. Hands down, it’s the best Oblivion glitch to date.

EA has RPG in the Works

EA has revealed the Project Gray Company, a new RPG they are developing in a massive open world, using A.I. similar to how The Sims works (needs, goals, motivations, etc.) It sounds like EA wants to tackle the success that Bethesda Softworks has had with The Elder Scroll series. Whether it is a good thing that EA are trying their hand at this remains to be seen. As much as I’d love more CRPG in this kind of style, I’m not so sure EA is the company to do it. EA seems more intent on production value than gameplay these days.

Top 10 Oblivion Mods

It didn’t take long after the release of Oblivion for some quality mods to come out that enhanced an already superb role-playing game. Planet Elder Scrolls has posted what they believe to be the top 10 mods that you should download and install. Do you think they missed any mods that should be on the list? Some of the ones I’d add are Advanced Water Modification (prettier water, less murky), Brighter Torches (see better in the dark) and NoLoad (no more Loading area prompts, not needed for PC version.)

Oblivion Team Q&A #4

RPG Vault has the fourth installment of their Team Q&A with Bethesda about Oblivion, asking everyone what their favorite location is. I’d have to say I really love Cheydinhal.

The Witcher Interview

RPGCodex has their interview online with the guys behind The Witcher, the action RPG that boasts it will redefine the RPG genre. As far as interviews goes, it’s a hard-nosed one that puts The Witcher in the confessional booth.

Let’s talk about that “RPG Redefined” thing. What’s it all about and why do you think that the genre should be redefined? Most importantly, why do you believe that your attempts to redefine it would actually improve the genre?

The best way to clarify this statement is to say that we don’t feel we are redefining the computer role-playing game genre, but changing the way that one achieves an overall role-playing experience. First, you had pen and paper games. At the heart of this was a great story, playing a role, and exploring a fantasy world through imagination. Then when computers arrived the experience simply transferred to a new medium, but instead of dice determining the next outcome you had the computer doing the computations. Then, with the advancements in computer technology we saw these worlds come alive with visual depth and amazing technology, but the focus on using numbers for advancement still remained.
