Pretty impressive speech technology, and we’ve already heard reports of the same type of effect being used in upcoming games for players when they talk over built-in voice chat to sync their speech with the lips of their characters.
We highly recommend checking out the other Mass Effect videos, some truly stunning work even if its only being released for the 360 initially. *sad panda face*
Oh and yeah Cmdr. Shepherd totally could have hit that blue hotty. -DR
Telltale’s website on the upcoming Sam & Max game is now online. They also note that a trailer for the game will be available tomorrow.
If you’re like me, you love anything that’s free, which is why TwitchGuru’s Ten Free Games Worth Downloading is quite the serendipitous gem.
James Francis, the author of the article, shares his opinion on what you would typically find in regards to free games offered online:
Most free games are terrible and that’s when you can even find them. Type the phrase into a search engine and the water goes murky with links to demos, flash games and a whole lot of online poker.
Games like Sandbox of God and Seiklus, a quirky puzzle playground and a surreal and soothing sidescroller stand out in the article as well as a few others that even I had never heard of.
It’s certainly worth a look and a download.
A couple of reviews for the adventure game, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, on both Gamespot and Gamespy. Gamespot gives it an 8.1, and Gamespy gives it a 5 out of 5 stars, making this a quality adventure game you should pick up if you love those type of games. Here’s a snip from Gamespot’s review:
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is, first and foremost, a great work of science fiction. Such a complex plot, endearing characters, and imaginative settings and situations are highly uncommon to gaming, or any medium for that matter. Those familiar with the game’s predecessor might expect no less, since it’s widely considered one of the best adventure games ever made. Judged as a follow-up to a beloved classic, Dreamfall does not disappoint, for the most part. It exhibits the unique attention to detail and terrific presentation that made The Longest Journey so remarkable for its time. But Dreamfall also does an excellent job drawing in new players as well as those fans patiently awaiting this sequel.
Gamespot has posted their review of Tomb Raider: Legend, the action/adventure game from Crystal Dynamics. They awarded the game a 7.8, making this Tomb Raider the best rated game in the series since the 2nd one was released long ago (Legend is #8 in the series.)
It’s been almost 10 years since the first Tomb Raider was released, and while video games have come a long way since then, the Tomb Raider series hasn’t kept pace. Problems such as clunky controls and a frustrating camera, which were excusable in the early games, have steadily degraded the quality of the series releases over time. The latest installment, Tomb Raider: Legend, finally brings the series into the 21st Century while staying true to the adventurous spirit of the early games.
Vivendi Universal Games has an announcement about their upcoming fantasy-adventure game based on the novel, Eragon. It is being mass produced on just about every platform; PC, Xbox 360, Xbox, Playstation 2, Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance.
In past cases, games developed on such a wide range of platforms tend to be dismal on the PC, so I’m not holding my breath at this point until further details come out on the game. Here’s the official word on Eragon, the game:
Based on the worldwide literary phenomenon and Fox 2006 tentpole film starring Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons and Academy Award nominee John Malkovich, Eragon immerses the player in a magical world of dragons, destiny and adventure. Gamers will engage in intense battles with an unparalleled combo and magic-based combat system, including stunning finishing moves, multiple grapples and degradable blocks with unique counter attacks. The adventure is heightened with breathless dragon flight-based combat and devastating dragon summon attacks. Fantasy fans can also share the adventure with 2 player co-op featuring team attack bonuses and dragon fight/flight combo gameplay.
I remember hearing about Eragon a while back, and how it was written by a 17-year old boy. I’ve been meaning to read the novel, as I always enjoy a good fantasy adventure. If you’re interested, you can buy Eragon, the novel, at Amazon.
The Guardian has an interview with Toby Gard, the artist who designed Tomb Raider’s main heroine, Lara Croft. They talk about the past when the first Tomb Raider came out, all the way up to the present day release of Legend.
What are the difference between working on Lara now and when you did originally?
It’s all about detail now. The gameplay is fairly similar to what it was in the original game. So you have combat, exploration and puzzles. But it’s the fidelity that is the difference now. Big basic blocks don’t cut it anymore - you need swaying grass and butterflies now. Also the team for Legend is ten times as big the original team. It’s gone from 6 to 60.
As mentioned a couple of days ago, the classic game, Out of this World (also known as Another World), has been rereleased with new, higher resolution graphics, yet still has that excellent gameplay of old. FileShack has the shareware version, and the full version can be unlocked for $8.50. Michael Heilemann who works with IO Interactive on the Hitman series, has an article about this new rerelease and is very excited playing it.
Remember the classic game, Out of this World, released in 1991 and sported some amazing visuals and gameplay (back in those days.) Well if you did, you may delight in the fact that Eric Chachi, the creator of the game, has updated the graphics and will re-release the game as Another World in a couple of days. It’ll cost 5 Euros, which may translate to $5-6 if sold Stateside. You can see a screenshot here.
You can now try out the Bone: The Great Cow Race demo, which puts the comic book character into an adventure game. Grab it from the official site, 3D Gamers or 3D Downloads. The full version of the game will set you back a measly $13 if you enjoy the demo.
It seems a number of gamers using NVIDIA-based video cards have been having problems with the next-generation feature in Tomb Raider: Legend. Bit-Tech tells NVIDIA about it, and they apologized and fixed the problem. As a result, they’ve made available new Forceware drivers, version 84.43 on nZone. If you’re having problems with Tomb Raider: Legend, you may want to grab this driver.
Telltale announces that their episodic content prices has been knocked down from $19.99 to $12.99 So the second episode of the Bone adventure game will cost less than the original, and the third episode should share the same price. Since this is a new model of distribution as is episodic content, we’ll likely see publishers adjusting the prices to meet the demand of the market.
Telltale will release its second Bone episode, Bone: The Great Cow Race later this month. The first release in the series, Bone: Out From Boneville was released last Fall at a higher price point. As of today, the company is lowering all episodes in the Bone series distributed through its digital download channel to the new lower price of $12.99 each in line with the new structure.
GameTunnel, a site dedicated to unearthing the homegrown genuinity of independent gaming, has written an in-depth game review of what can only be described as a mish-mash of Indiana Jones and James Bond called Bonez Adventures: Tomb of Fulaos.
GameTunnel writes:
Bonez: Tomb of Fulaos is an interesting take on a genre that has faded over the years. Back in the day, Sierra had revolutionized the point-and-click adventure. Sadly though, over the years adventure games were over-run by the mass abundance of other, more popular, genres. However, Tomb of Fulaos is a satisfactory, if not an over-worthy, attempt at rekindling the point-and-click experience.
If anything, it’s worth a look, especially if you’re a fan of RPG, puzzle and adventure games.
