John Smedley took a break to post on the Sony Station Blog letting everyone know they’ll be announcing a new online game at the SOE’ Fan Faire ‘07 in Vegas.
Smedly claims it’s a game they’ve had in the works for a long while with the implication that it is a new title. Assuming this won’t be the coming out party for the previously announced FreeRealms or The Agency, SOE could very well have outdone Blizzard’s Starcraft 2 stealth announcement.
Depending on the nature of the announced title, this type of launch could do very well given the anecdotal evidence of burnt out MMO players desperately looking for something new to tide them over for a few months before the bulk of new MMORPG’s hit the market.
With SOE showing the game off on August 3rd, then following up quickly with a full retail launch at the end of the month they could be positioned to capture a decent amount of online gamers willing to give it a try.
Personally I’m hoping for Hello Kitty Island Adventures Online with some of that Smedly magic… Hardcore all the way! -DR

I’ll place money on a bet that says it’s another CCG and not an MMO.

“I’ll place money on a bet ” Nice sentence Brent. Sheesh.

Lol, hey man with all the writing I’ve been doing lately I’m seriously thinking about switching over to the podcast format. Much more forgiving I think.
Then again I’d just be another American jackass doing a podcast, and I hear those spots are all taken.

I hope its the DC Comics game

Nevermind, just read the part about launching later in the month. Its probably going to be a stupid trading card game /snore.

That would be a snoozefest, but would be the most logical option.
Call me crazy for holding out hope that they’d have a real MMO title tucked away running in silent mode.
My playlist for the last two months in subscriptions and trials since quitting WoW would make hardcore MMO player weep.. Eve-Online, World in Conflict, Ryzom, Fury, Sword of the New World, and Star Wars Galaxies.

I was sort of hoping that it would be a change of heart in providing PreCU servers for Star Wars Galaxies. It certainly would end alot of comments and debate that will happen latter that weekend http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=14233174
Trust me and Love that Jestor!

Jestor you crack me up but yeah… not a chance I think.
SWG is not a wise investment nor has a wise playerbase at this point to even milk or increase. Pre-CU would pull back about 1/3 of what they had I think.
I did notice that not one banner or picture has any SWG art on it for the fan fest… if you look at the art they have up now, none of it is even pushing SWG. If you think about it why on earth would you push this product now? What person would think this would be a wise investment whatsoever?
I know some three legged horses that would be better.
I think it will be the DC game though, not sure what to think of it until I see Smedley post “We will not NGE it either”… as a back up to what he said about Vanguard as well.
(Kinda the staple alot of us like to see now I think with SOE games).

SWG is on my playlist is so I revisit it for a future post NGE mini-review. It’s interesting to see the effects of NGE on the game, my prior experience being the beta and first several months after the rocky launch.
It is true the return on investment for it would be poor in its current condition.
The years simply haven’t been kind to this title, NGE aside, it’s not aging well and desperately needs a lot of polish in order to stand up to the newer MMO’s.
Whether that’s a major expansion to re-launch the title, or a completely brand new Star Wars MMO leaving SWG intact, SOE would be crazy not to take another stab at this IP.
Future releases such as Star Trek Online and Stargate Worlds are only going to put more pressure on the title.

Could they just be announcing the release of PotBS and claiming they’re just now announcing it since they recently inked the deal with FLS? Heh…
Probably is a card game though.
